Periodontal treatment
Periodontitis is a common oral disease that affects people of all ages. If not treated early, it can lead to bleeding gums, gum swelling, and eventually, tooth loss. How can you detect periodontitis early and prevent its progression? Today, New Gate Dental will help you answer these questions.

What Is Periodontitis & Its Causes?

Periodontitis, also known as periodontal disease, is the inflammation of the structures around the teeth due to bacterial growth on dental plaque. The disease often progresses quietly and is easy to overlook. It’s one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults.

Periodontitis is categorized into two main groups: gingivitis (in adolescents) and periodontitis (in adults).

Factors that increase the risk of periodontitis include:

  • Improper oral hygiene and lack of regular dental check-ups.
  • Frequent smoking and consumption of unhealthy foods that harm oral health.
  • Individuals with pre-existing health conditions and weakened immune systems.

Common Symptoms of Periodontitis

Các Triệu Chứng Thường Gặp Của Bệnh Viêm Nha Chu

Periodontitis typically progresses through two stages: gingivitis and periodontitis. The most common symptoms include:

  • Bleeding when brushing your teeth.
  • Tartar build-up around the base of the teeth.
  • Red, swollen gums in the early stages, which can progress to pus formation in more advanced stages.
  • Bad breath.
  • Loose teeth.

Treatment Methods for Periodontitis

If detected early during the gingivitis stage, the disease can be completely cured. However, most cases of periodontitis are diagnosed at a later stage, requiring professional dental intervention. Treatment options for periodontitis include:

  1. Emergency treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications: This is a temporary solution, and the disease may recur if proper care isn’t taken.
  2. Non-surgical treatment for periodontitis: Dentists will administer anti-inflammatory medications directly to the affected gums, combined with thorough teeth cleaning, tartar removal, and overall dental assessment. Non-salvageable teeth may need to be extracted.
  3. Surgical treatment for periodontitis: Surgery is recommended when other treatments fail to yield results.

At New Gate International Dental, we encourage you to take proactive steps in caring for your teeth by scheduling regular dental check-ups and early treatments for any oral health issues, including periodontitis, to ensure strong and healthy teeth.
